POSITION STATUS:
The essential purpose of the Carrizo Gorge Railroad Police
Department is Expressed in the Mission Statement: “Protecting International Commodities
with Safety and Values." The Department serves railroads in San Diego and Imperial
Counties by performing law enforcement in a professional manner.
The Police Forensic Specialist is responsible for the general and technical fingerprint analysis of physical
evidence using modern technology; conducting fingerprint comparisons; operating and conducting latent
searches via the Cal-ID Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS); and testifying in court as an
expert witness. This classification is distinguished from the Police Field Support Technician classification
does a full range of non-hazardous law enforcement fieldwork including fingerprint and evidence collection
at crime scenes.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Locate, isolate, collect, analyze, compare and identify fingerprints primarily in a laboratory environment;
collect related fingerprint evidence; preserve evidence integrity; work collaboratively with other
jurisdictions; operate and conduct latent searches through the Cal-ID Automated Fingerprint Identification
System (AFIS); provide expert testimony; photograph prints; process and develop photographs; prepare
and maintain records and reports; operate and maintain photographic and other equipment; and maintain
proficiency in current and evolving equipment, techniques and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience recommended but not required in fingerprint identification and crime scene investigation.
Education – Basic fingerprinting and photography required and enrollment in advanced fingerprinting and
photography recommended or a certificate of completion in Forensic Technology. Possession of or ability
to obtain a California Class C Driver's License with a safe driving record.

EXTRA NOTES:
Approved Police Forensic Specialist applicants will be evaluated on the basis of a
Qualifications Appraisal Interview (weight 100%), which will evaluate the candidate's
qualifications as they relate to the position of. Successful candidates will be placed on the
eligible list for employment consideration for at least six months based on their scores. Future
vacancies may also be filled from this list. Highly rated candidates may be scheduled for a
background investigation, CVSA test and medical examination (including an alcohol & drug
screen).
